Germany - Harz
When I was in Braunlage a few years ago there was nothing particularly interesting in town. We ate at an OK Greek place that had a big outdoor terrace (this was later in spring, a bit before Walpurgisnacht) and a pizzeria. I didn't get the impression that there was a local Harz food culture to feast on, but I could be wrong. I can check up on that.
An update: a recommended restaurant in Braunlage is the one in Hotel Zur Tanne. They specialize in game and fish and are rather upscale, but (1) they have been a destination restaurant for German tourists for decades and (2) the reviewers on Tripadvisor (FWIW) say that their quality is still high. This hotel is located right in the center of town. I apologize that this is not a true Chowhound recommendation (we like odd, cheap, surprising etc.), but I don't think there's really a Chowhoundish (or -isch) place in Braunlage. Enjoy the forest!
