Where's Reply to Original Post @ Bottom of Topic?

I'd like to chime in here with a request that we have a return to the "Reply to Original Post" option at the bottom of a thread. I do read all the way through before replying and (especially on the longer threads) it's a pain to have to scroll back-up to reply.

Chow appears to have decided to move it from the bottom of the thread to the top. Presumably this is so that people can read the OriginalPost while they are responding, perhaps encouraging responses to remain on subject rather than a free association from one response to the next.

On the flip side of the equation it means that people are more likely to say what has already been said, and less likely to read the entire thread before they reply.

Somehow I don't see Chowhounds clicking a button before they post that reads:

"I have read the entire thread on this subject, all related posts, and all relevant links and references contained herein and therein and do hereby agree not to make redundant statements, pose obtuse questions, or engage in snarky behavior. I do also hereby declare that I am fully competent and qualified to make a statement on this subject."

In addition to the 'Reply to Original Post' at the bottom of a topic, I wish there were also a 'Return to Profile' button. There are three possible options when you're don with a thread:
1. Return to the board
2. Return to your profile
3. Reply to OP

All three of these should be linked at the bottom of a thread. There's just no reason not to make these actions faster and simpler.

Agreed. I'd forgotten that I already use the "return to top" button to get to my profile link to catch up on threads I've participated in. It would be nice to have all 3 at the end of a thread.

On my iPhone at least, I just tap the original post and an arrow comes up next to a flag. Tap the arrow and the reply box opens.

Right, but what do you do if you are at the bottom of the post? What used to take one click now takes two. You have to hit "back to top", wait for it to scroll up, then tap the post to get the reply box. It used to be easier. (I use my iphone too).

I just tap the black line at the top of the screen- the one with the carrier name, time, and battery remaining- and goes up in less than a second.

Huh. Good tip; it's faster than the back to top built in. But, I still miss the old format that didn't require t extra step :)

But why should we have to get to the top to reply? Especially on long threads this is a PITA.

It feels like Chowhound is trolling for clicks.

I've been wondering that myself. On some long threads, scrolling back up to the top to post is annoying.

And it seems like we're getting more replies to unrelated posts because of this also.

Seems to be gone............... but there IS a "To the Top" button at the bottom right, just annoyingly farther down below the end of the topic. You don't have to scroll.
