If you don't a bit of a walk, I would consider Brenda's in the Tenderloin district.

Cafe de la Press (although more heading towards the financial area), Nob Hill Grill, Farm:Table, Red Door Cafe or Olea (but they only serve breakfast Fri-Sun). hope you find something!

Try Sweet Woodruff as well. Nice grits and some kickass oatmeal, among other things.

This is the only mention I see on CH about Red Door Cafe, which I (randomly) ate at in late December, and really loved. It's quirky like Hamburger Mary's in the early 90's, with dildoes on the table and single wait person with a solidly fun attitude, but I also loved the food. The place is _TINY_ and I think they'll turn you away if they don't like the looks of you - that seemed to happen with the couple who showed up before me.
