Beaufort SC Fish Markets on Sunday?

Will be passing through Beaufort on Sunday and was hoping to pick up some fresh seafood, particularly fish and oysters to enjoy picnic style at nearby Hunting Island State Park. Would definitely prefer to shop at a local fish market instead of a chain grocery store, but internet searches have not yielded any such spots that are open on a Sunday. Do any Beaufort locals have any recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not local, but I think you may be out of luck. From which direction are you traveling? There are plenty of places (not necessarily fish markets) in Charleston and Savannah open on Sunday. There might be one open in Hilton Head.

Fish markets have mostly raw stuff. You know that, right?

There is an open air fish market on the left about 1/4 mile before you cross Johnson Creek onto Hunting. They may or may not be open on any given Sunday. As Sue said, this is raw seafood.

Another option for a picnic would be to stop just past there at the Johnson Creek Tavern and get a to-go order of fish and oysters, or just eat there enjoying the view. Sit on the deck if the weather cooperates. They have a website.

Sunday is a bad day because best places are closed. But....stop by the Publix on Lady's Island on your way up Rt 21 to the beach. Nice fish dept. ask for Maria She is a local favorite and a big help!
