BaconFest Seminole Coconut Creek Casino
A quick review - weather couldn't have been nicer, warm but not too humid. We got given a book of tickets/coupons to taste the food at each food stand, way more than we used. It was bacon everywhere! Bacon popcorn, bacon cupcakes, bacon burgers, bacon wrapped bacon, bacon brownies, bacon fudge. Crowds were not too bad and I think the longest lines were at The Melting Pot. Other restaurants I saw with food stands were Dada, Luna Rosa and New York New York, but there were probably 50 local restaurants there.
Music by the Bacon Brothers was ok, the atmosphere was great.
I'd definitely go again. We had our motorcycles in the Hog Pen.
I thought the event was a great success. Very well behaved crowd, more food than I could possibly taste, and the Bacon Bros. put on a great show!
My favorite "bites" were Kapow Noodle Bar's bacon and roasted jalapeno rangoon with chimichurri followed in no particular order by...
Venezuelan bacon roll with ham and capers from Sybarite Pig
Fresh Harvest's bacon sushi with avocado with a ginger pickled bacon garnish
Dada's bacon wrapped Medjool date stuffed with goat cheese
And the Bacon wrapped porchetta with bacon apple butter served with a bacon crusted zeppole with maple bacon bourbon sauce from Big City Tavern.
It's hard to find any complaints though I was a little perturbed when I couldn't bring a (fresh) drink from the casino into the festival. No big deal...I finished my drink outside before going in.
I thought it was a great time and will definitely go if they do it next year. And, I will definitely be looking for more of those rangoons next time I visit Kapow!
I thought baconfest was great. I hope they do it again next year.
Dan Band was awesome and it was nice to see them in Florida as I don't think they've ever played here. Or at least not South Florida.
As for the bacon most of the dishes I tried were very good with the exception of maybe 1 or 2. Also the amount of sample tickets they gave were more then enough. We left with a good chunk of them unused and had several people approach to us to try and give us there unused tickets.
Another thing I liked is they didn't try to kill you with the beer prices, $6 for an aluminum pint. Of course in general a $6 pint isn't a great price, but for an event this was a steal.
I'm going...I bought our tickets the day I heard about it!
In looking over the line-up I thought some of the restaurant items look interesting while others look kind of "meh". I guess though that would hold true for most any of this type of food event. We're looking for to it nevertheless!
