Tiger Sushi 2 :The End or the Beginning?

I have a love/hate relationship with Tiger Sushi in uptown. I love their MOA location. It is like a little oasis in the huge mother ship known as the Mall of America. However, at the MOA, no one is expecting world-class sushi. It is just there for what it is. Mall sushi which is pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The prices are high, yes, but you need to remember that leasing a space at the MOA is expensive and I can understand the mark up.

However, the uptown location is a joke. $20 for a roll of nothing but rice, mayo, and a few bits of fish tucked underneath? $7 for a plate of pre-frozen Gyoza? The menu also has an app called "scallop purses". For $5, you get what is basically cream cheese wontons minus the scallops (as the menu promises).

Origami is moving into Uptown soon. Fuji-Ya already dominates the Uptown Sushi scene. I think Tiger 2 is on their way out.

Any thoughts?

    1. Origami's moving into Uptown? Where?

They shuttered their Wayzata location and are opening on Lagoon in Uptown. The downtown location won't be changing.

      2. My only thoughts are that rent in Uptown may be higher than MOA, but it's doubtful. It certainly would depend on the location. As for the prices and what you get, it seems like a rip-off but it's all in the eye of the beholder. Some restaurants are lauded for giving you very little food for high bucks.
