Dining solo near Marriott Marquis

maxwellsmart Feb 11, 2013 12:27 PM

Any suggestions for a French or American resto where I can have an early weeknight dinner - that is comfortable for a solo female diner and within easy walking distance of the Marriott Marquis. Anything up to $100 for dinner is ok. Interested in market/seasonal driven cuisine with a good selection of wine by the glass. All suggestions welcome!

DB Bistro Moderne (not particularly seasonal -- but you're not in the best part of town for eating, so your choices are somewhat limited).

Esca (local fish -- as seasonal as you can get).

New York is the solo dining capital of the universe, so anywhere you want, really.

I've been accused of insensitivity to women when I've said this, but I dine out alone a lot and can think of no non-dive restaurants in New York where it would be especially uncomfortable for a woman (as opposed to a man) to dine solo.

Oh yeah. I spent a whole day in NYC while hubby was working. Went to a show, had lunch, shopped, cocktails, then dinner. Had a blast all by myself! I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had the chance.

I know it's not French or American, but I love Becco & Orso on Restaurant Row, just behind the Marriott.
