Hop Woo (on Sepulveda and Olympic) or Mandarin Kitchen in Westwood, what would you choose for somewhat authentic on the Westside ?

And what do you order there ?

We're big fans of the rock cod in black bean sauce and their beef hot pot with turnip (I have no idea how to pronounce that one... it's something that sounds like "now nam" bowl).

Going tonight? We had reservations then decided to go crazy and try Starry Kitchen's special menu instead.

Sorry, poor reading comp. skills. Those are both from Hop Woo. The now nam bowl isn't on a special menu, I just don't know what they call it on the regular one. Something like Cantonese beef hot pot, I think. I always say "now nam bowl" and the waiter chuckles at my botching of the language, takes a second to think, and figures out what I mean.

Haven't tried Mandarin Kitchen, we've been regulars at HW for about 10 years and I can be a real creature of habit if something else doesn't entice me out of it.

Starry Kitchen's special Chinese NYE dinner was mentioned earlier this week on Eater, so we decided to dive in and try.
