Pliny the Younger sightings 2013
SF Beer Week starts this Friday. I've heard some taprooms have already taken distribution of kegs of Pliny the Younger but wont be tapping until a later date. Trappist in Oakland announced on FB.
Does anyone have any updates they would like to share?

Yesterday, the 4th Street Bar and Grill cracked open a keg of Pliny the Younger. It was gone in twenty minutes but there was enough for one round for everyone there. Yes, for a beer, it was worth the hype. I can't afford $150 cult wines so this will do. The good news is 4th Street will be tapping another keg today (Wed.) at 5PM. Grab a bar stool early and enjoy a Damnation while you're waiting.

Thanks for the tip. I went yesterday (Wed.) and everything was very manageable. I got there around 15 minutes before 5:00, and I got the last open stool at the bar. The started serving right around 5. By the time I left at 5:15, everyone in the bar had been served and there was still some left over.

All right! I'm glad you could enjoy some. This list tipped me off last year so I'm glad I could return the favor. Stopped by Murio's on the Haight. They tapped theirs a couple of days ago. Still waiting for Public House to pop their keg. They said they will Tweet about it when they tap.

Tomorrow they'll have a keg of Pliny The Younger at The Monk's Kettle to benefit La Cocina:

Most over-rated, over-hyped beer on the planet. Well, the Westveletren XII I bought 6 bottles of for $87 and could have sold on ebay for $325 gave it a run for its money, but I can't pass judgment as I'm not going to crack a bottle of that for a year.
Drake's Hopocalypse is better- the Black Label sold out before I showed up, but the green label is still on tap in the Barrel House. Growlers available to boot.

re: Pius Avocado III
I have to agree. It's a _very_ good beer, to be sure, but I really don't think it lives up to the hype.
Gotta hand it to the brewers though for successfully nurturing its bizarre cult status, even if in the end it's pretty much smoke and mirrors.
Despite that, I will reiterate that while it's not worthy of the hype that has put it on a pedestal, I do think it's a well made brew.

Beer Revolution in Oakland has their keg, but has no plans to tap it until after Beer Week (and if they stick to previous routine, may not announce at all when they do).
There's a steadily-growing thread on the Beer Advocate forums addressing this question - among the other local spots, apparently the Bistro in Hayward is tapping a keg this afternoon, and the Lafayette Park Hotel is tapping one later today as well.
Personally, I'll probably just wait for the Trappist keg and/or Beer Rev's keg - SF Beer Week involves enough rugby scrums as it is without dealing with Younger-mania.

Trappist announced they were selling $2 tickets again this year - only a limited number each day, building up to when they actually tap the keg.
Not sure if The Trappist Provisions or OL will get kegs, or just the Trappist?
Might not be the case this year, but Lafayette Park Hotel has been the place to go to avoid the rugby scrums in the last few years....
