The Least Chowish ISO Ever: Reser's Red Hot Beef Burrito

As a teenager, I ate about a zillion of these, slathered with vast quantities of sour cream to counteract the spiciness of them, and for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, my adult self has become quasi-obsessed with having one again.

I've looked in grocery stores in San Francisco, Prince George and Toronto, and I've yet to find one that carries the burritos. I tried emailing Reser's to ask if they track specific stores which stock specific products but didn't get a response (I've just tried again, so maybe I'll hear from them in the promised 3-5 days this time.)

I know this is stupid and ridiculous and not houndish at all, but I just want to eat one, so I can realize they are every bit as terrible as they really have to be, and move on with my life.

I have not, though that would make sense. There's one not terribly far from me - I'll take a look there.

I have tried Walmart, they did not, alas.

    2. I bought them at the Wal-Mart at Warden and Eglinton but it was over a year ago.

I can't remember which Walmart I bought them at. Might have been around Pickering somewhere.

      2. Have you checked Costco? I've bought them there, but many years ago. I too have eaten hundreds of these in my life...I can still taste them! If I see them at Costco, I'll buy a pack and let you know. The bad thing about costco packs is that you get stuck with a bunch of bean and cheese burritos...

I've never seen them in Costco, though I've definitely looked when I'm there. But you know how Costco is, it's possible they sometimes carry them and I've just been unlucky.

I did try 7-11, and that was a good call, because they had Reser's burritos, but the beef and bean ones, rather than the red hot beef.

I did hear back from Reser's, though. And this time there was an automated reply right away, followed by some actual people replying, so I'm assuming my attempt to email them last year went astray somewhere, as I didn't get even an automated reply then.

They've said Food Basics carry them, and also that the no-name brand ones (which I have seen and wondered about) are very similar.

So now, sometime after it stops snowing like crazy, I have some new places to check. Food Basics is the green stores, right? I don't think I've ever lived or worked near one, but I seem to remember that there's one on Jane between Eglinton and St. Clair that I used to drive by a lot.

        2. I'm from the Pacific Northwest, and I've found it almost impossible to find anything Reser's unless you're on the west coast. I too, am quasi-obsessed with their burritos (although I prefer the bean and cheese variety, slathered in an obscene amount of Tabasco... oh my... mouth watering...). I've looked in Texas (no-go), Boston area (nope), Arizona, and I've even had a hard time finding them in the San Francisco area (I did eventually find them at a Safeway in San Jose). I'm not sure where they are based, but I have no problem finding them in Oregon. Food for thought. :)
