Oversized food storage bags [moved from General Topics]

Geoff Feb 7, 2013 07:46 AM

I have some items that won't fit into a typical gallon-sized freezer bag, but i really want to put them into sealable bags before placing in freezer. anyone know of where to get oversized sealable freezer bags, or alterntive thoughts? thanks!

I have to hunt for them, on my grocery store shelves, but there ARE TWO gallon bags where I shop.

I use them for curing pork belly for bacon.

Not sure if this will be big enough or qualifies as "oversize".

    Best of luck.

The same, I always stock up on two gallon when I spot them, you can fit a turkey carcass and the like in there.

I get them at most big supermarket chain stores.

Sam's carries the 2 gallon freezer bags sometimes.

Ziploc makes 2-gallon bags and Hefty makes 2.5-gallon.

Right now I have a generic store brand, 2 gallon, if I ever saw 2.5 I'd probably buy some myself.

thanks everyone, will take a look. i've never even looked for the larger size, simply assumed 1 gallon might be largest. appreciate your comments!

I couldnt find any where I live, so ended up buying some from Amazon.com. I use them to cure pork bellies in to make bacon. They work just fine.

Ikea sells food storage bags in different sizes and one of the sizes is longer/taller than a normal gallon-size bag. It's perfect for, for example, a box of water crackers which won't fit in a gallon -size bag.

Why insist on keeping the packaging whole just to store the item? http://lifehacker.com/5982483/split-a...

Another vote for the Ikea over-sized storage bags. I love them ....great for ribs and other larger items.

The package contains 2 sizes: 4.5 qt and 6 qt bags.

Target also sells oversize zip-top bags (can't remember which brand) that are even larger than 2 gallon. They're marketed as being useful for travel and camping and dirty laundry and sports equipment and such.

This is what I found. They're 2.5 gallon zip-tops. Target had them. thanks all!
