Ruby B.B.Q Food (S. El Monte)

Went to pick up some BBQ to go and was shocked that it replaced Curry BBQ.

Ordered half a pound each of char siew and roast pork. Cliff notes:

1. Roast pork was really good...and he thin sliced it according to my instructions. I HIGHLY recommend it. I would go back just for this item.

2. Char siew was above average, not too fatty. Will skip it and try the duck next time.

3. Only had 3 roast ducks hanging; so I didn't try them. Nothing else in the heated trays.

4. Did not cared for the cooked items (see All Day Special menu).

  1. Were you able to catch blimpbinge's sentiments before heading out

*pours ones for Curry & BBQ Plu$*

If anyone has any other even slightly remotely interesting Chinese food openings (besides yet another Green Island) for '13, post up, please.

Nope. Wished I had seen it to prepare my expectations. I doubt Ruby will survive long...a real shame.

Have yet to find a B-Open Kitchen replacement either.

Planning to try this new 2013 opening later this week when I head to Ikea:

      Teochew Restaurant
      18508-A Gale Ave
      City of Industry, CA 91748

I saw that as well! I tried calling them last week but no one ever picked up (rang endlessly). Glad to see someone posted pics of their menu online.

Hope to try it soon, from the looks of it, it is mostly cantonese food.

For b-open kitchen, are you looking for anything specific?

        1. re: blimpbinge

Yes. B-Open had the closest thing to Yong Tau Foo ( Singapore style.

Their fish stuffed chilli pepper was pretty good. Very disappointed that they closed even with the good reviews on yelp.

          1. re: dreamcast18

oh yea that's all over singapore. Well the singapore style is more like you mix and match yourself. According to the wiki and some blogs (and their menu), i guess b open had the "hakka" style.

I'm pretty surprised they closed as well, they were busy everytime I went. Ramen Fujisan isn't doing nearly as well (still pretty empty when i drive by)

I'll need to be on the lookout for it.

Edit: tried yelp, wonder if this place has anything similar? (2nd to last page)

Tried HK Kitchen a while back....B Open was way better + they had the free herbal tea.

Ramen Fujisan has horrible ventilation last time i was there.

              1. re: blimpbinge

Dam Curry BBQ already shuttered! Sucks...

While ramen fujisan isn't bad it isn't doing much to differentiate itself from Daikokuya which it's ramen highly resembles.

      2. Noooooooo :( Will miss their roast pork.
