Kitchen-Aid Immersion Blender whisk attachment

I have a Kitchen-Aid Immersion Blender and the whisk won't stay in the whisk attachment. You are supposed to be able to separate them for cleaning, but lately it just falls out when I turn on the motor. I tried a few drops of Krazy Clue without success. A replacement part is about $30. Anyone have any suggestions?

Bonus question: what is a good, inexpensive hand mixer I could get for under $40 for my whisking needs if I can't fix this?

A regular whisk and your arm works pretty well for whisking.
