Do many places in Barcelona close during August?

I'll likely be in Spain and France in late August (~Aug 22-31). Are many local restaurants/bars closed for August holidays? I was in Italy the other year in mid-August and so many restaurants and gelato places on my Chowhounder-approved list were closed. If that is also the case for Spain, I want to try to move my trip to early September so I don't miss out!

    check the web sites of the places you will be visiting - they often post as to whether they will be closed for august holiday, and how many weeks.

      Hi, yes, a good many bars and restaurants will be closed.

        Thank you, Haarlson. I'm going to move my trip to September! Would be a crime to go with so many places closed.
