Was in Miami and then up to Orlando and then back to Miami--last week...always go to Joe's stone crabs, but gotta tell you, for a sat night, the food was really subpar--I would've complained but I was with a group, and didn't want to cause a fuss..but frankly, the stone crabs tasted frozen, sticky stuck to shell, and not sweet with funky discolorations, and what looked like rotting spots or sections--not at all the quality that I'm used to there--potatoes not that hot, spinach bland, and even key lime pie shabby looking melty piece---hmmm for the dough they charge, it's unacceptable---these were 2 orders for selects at about $50 a pop--tiny, and just not good....

Miami Juice, went there 2x, they've got really good tuna salad there--but they need some other bread for sandwiches, not just pita--the salads are pricey and dressings rather mundane (they are bottled you can see them pouring them..,ugghh)--how can anyone charge $15 for a salad and serve bottled dressings...the place is busy all the time...they are ok, if you're looking for healthy and decent portions....

Original pancake house in aventura..they are so nice there--place is busy, breakfast yummy--good waffles, pancakes, hash browns, etc...their crepes aren't too bad either--

Jimmy Z in wynwood, terrific meal, very nice staff there--fresh, prepared and executed with style, delicious--and so reasonable..what a pleasure!! And their desserts are superb, had coconut flan that was more like a cake, yummy...sent my friends there that live in sobe, and they raved about their meal, too...they had fish---and some salads....cute atmosphere, too. and very clean!!

PF Chang in Aventura, my father in law, likes this place, in ny, in long island, the location is absolutely vile, but this one in aventura, has actually been ok when I've been in the past--but this time, the service was abominable, seemed like they just grabbed some guy off the street and gave him the job with no training..and the food was uniformly lousy--and not cheap....we had eaten at Pei Wei another day, and frankly, the place is 1/2 price of pf chang (it's owned by pf chang) but the food is HOT (pf changs food is always served 1/2 cold--can't stand that)--and service better and food fresher....stick with the loehmans plaza location of pei wei over pf changs if the need arises...

Husband went to sang's chinese for late dinner one night, he loves that place, great razor clams and black bean sauce that rivals what we get in flushing in queens ny....

Anthony's in aventura, always good, went there for dinner and lunch--had a white pizza with olives and basil that was superb--their salad always fresh---

Barrio Latino, at waterways, had 2 meals there, first was excellent, 2nd was lousy--served cold chicken, onions not cooked properly, my friends fish wasn't very fresh--this was on a monday, first time was on a thursday..could explain things...but, generally, I love this place, great sangria, and superb chimichurri sauce and cuban classics...

Gianni's in Pompano, well we were the youngest there and that ain't saying much!! But, we've been before and had great meals, this time the waiter was awful, service was nonexistent, took forever for food, and it was just ok...salad which is usually great, with gorgonzola cheese and shallots was oversalted--and snapper francese was soggy, but fish was fresh--shrimp scampi ok, not as good as we are used to--meatballs, nice though--garlic rolls are good...

Migliore cafe on miami gardens dr..ate here years ago, and it seems to have recently changed hands...they project cool old movies on wall, which my kid loved--i had delcious fresh rigatoni with broccolini which I asked them to make for me with olive oil and garlic, it was perfect, my fil was miserable with veal parm, which was a chop not a scallopini and he said it was 80% bone and 20% fat and at $24, that sucked! The others had meat sauce with pasta which was ok, and it was not that hot, either--not sure what that was about..the house salad at $7 was a joke, described as charred hearts of palm and fennel, there was nothing in it but lettuce and a few specks of goat cheese...i complained and they brought me a bit to add to it, but this was just plain bad and showed the lack of talent on board there---my fil gave them 2 months, I think he might be right, even though my pasta was very good--glad they got that right at least..:)

popped into bagel cove to meet someone for a minute, man that place looks like a dive..what happened to it? Where is the bagel go to place anymore, is it moe's or what happened to bagel bar?

also, the whole foods in aventura is awful, the prepared foods so unappetizing and the cafe area is a nightmare to navigate--compared to the whole foods we went to in orlando, the place looks so rundown----

Didn't see a lot of new places in the aventura area, saw more that had dissapeared...tried to get to cheen huaye but it didn't work out..is that place still good?

One place that still hasn't lost it's magic is krispy kreme, made several late night trips there, and what a nice crew working there--my kid loves to watch the donuts, and they are without a doubt the best donuts!! I'll take a krispy kreme over a $3 doughnut from the doughnut plant in nyc anyday!

  1. For bagels I'd go to Sage Deli in Hallandale, or in a pinch Bagels & Company in Miami Shores; or for great smoked fish, pastrami and everything else made from scratch, Josh's Deli in Surfside (they also bake their own bagels, which is a noble effort, but they're not as good as Sage).
