Where can I find a good selection of tahini?

Good = either well-edited or wide variety. And high turnover.

Specific store recommendations are appreciated. Seems like Jons Marketplace (Little Armenia location?) might be an option, and maybe Super King?

I'm looking for brands other than Joyva. I realize there are different styles of tahini, so if you know that a store carries a particular type, please include that info as well.

  1. Sami Market on Fairfax near Clinton has a number of brands, some shelf stable and some prepared in the refrigerator. Also try the Glatt Mart and Elat market on Pico and Wooster.

    1. Try the Hollywood Farmers' Market on Sundays for some great selection. When we were there last Sunday, there were at least three different vendors selling hummus, tahini, etc. in their various forms.

I do not like any added ingredients in my hummus or tahini. We found one vendor -- not Mom's -- that was selling the real stuff without any added thickeners or congealers and it was superior to most I have had. We were very happy with what we purchased. I wish I could remember the name of the vendor, but I will recognize him upon our return.

      1. I usually use Joyva, because I haven't been able to find anything else, but I'm just wondering why you don't like it. Also, if other people can name some brands they think are better, I would appreciate it.

        1. I've bought it from Jons before-they seem to have all your middle eastern needs covered. I don't remember the brand I bought though.
