Fishbar, Starfish, or...?

I'm looking to have a fun and intimate seafood dinner tonight. I was planning on going to Fishbar because of the interesting menu and I liked the idea of sharing plates, but a friend of mine told me that the food was fairly disappointing. I'm now considering Starfish, but I'll be stuck with the Winterlicious menu and I've only seen one Winterlicious review which was pretty abysmal. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the delay. As it turns out, my date had to cancel so I didn't go anywhere. For what it's worth, I ended up deciding on... Oyster Boy! Not intimate, but I thought I'd change it up.

I disagree with your friend, I'd try Fishbar. I thought it was a pretty fun experience.

Yes the Starfish Winterlicious menu seems to have the popular items from their normal menu, but the one review I saw on here suggested that the meal was pretty boring. It made me wonder if they're serving watered down versions of their usual fare.

Anyone have any other comments on Fishbar? Their dishes seem really exciting but the reviews are very mixed!

I visited Fishbar a year ago, and thought not to visit again. Menu was interesting, but execution of it deserved a failing grade. And to top it all off -- our server was a chain smoker.

I quite like Starfish, we are there often. I was there for a liscious dinner a few years ago - it was quite good and as I recall, the menu was very similar to the regular menu. I recognize things may have changed.

And as Prima suggested - Zee Grill is great too

Starfish is one of the places where I thought was the same 'licious or regular. Actually, the best meal I've ever had at Starfish was from a 'licious menu. YMMV.

Much prefer Starfish to Fishbar. I also like Joso's and Zee Grill a lot.

My pick would be Starfish but they are doing Winterlicious so they are not offering the usual menu. I was there on Thursday and when we left at 1030 it was still packed so I suggest you call for a reso asap if that's what you pick.

I really enjoyed Fishbar. Here are some pics from our dinner there in the summer. http://bit.ly/SNGrV3 I absolutely loved the grilled whole fish stuffed with a green olive gremolata but I don't see it on the menu now.

My only complaint was the second time we went in October, I thought the oysters left something to be desired. They were good, just not GREAT. I recommend the fried lake smelts, the grilled calamari and the lobster mac and cheese. The fish tacos were okay.
