A few folks here instigate ad-hoc group eats when a new venue or event gets their interest. Often referred to as "chowdowns".

I've not gone to one for a good 2 years or so. Even helped orchestrate one that was part of a chowdown "series" started by Ben of Chowtimes. But that was a lot of work and research: http://chowtimes.com/2010/04/01/the-e...
