I will be on a biz trip staying in Hauppauge. Any must try eats?

  1. Good luck. Although my experience with Hauppauge eateries dates back to the late '70's/early '80's. Hopefully things have improved since then.

Chech out "Yelp". That's your best bet for current reviews - not Chow, unfortunately.

    1. Branchinellis in Hauppauge is definitely some of the best pizza on Long Island.
Pollos Mario in nearby Brentwood for Columbian.
Luso in nearby Smithtown for Portuguese including all you can eat rodizio.. Yummy!

An enthusiastic second for Branchinelli's. For breakfast or lunch, Maureen's Kitchen in nearby Smithtown. Love Kitchen a Bistro. I've only heard good feedback about Luso's.
Cafe la Strada, too, consistently good reviews for many years, noted for wine list.

+1 on Branchinellis and Maureen's kitchen.

Branchinellis (the servers pronounce it like tree "branch") has your entire party wait in line until you get to the front, and you can watch the kitchen pumping out pizza etc.. Looks longer than it actually takes. I'm not up on the best of LI currently, but the Sicilian slice, grandma slice, and eggplant parmigiana fulfilled all my NY Italian needs. If you ask , they give you a giant pour of complimentary red wine.

      2. Kotobuki for terrific sushi. It's on Nesconset Highway in the ShopRite shopping center. Nearby, Pace's Steak House is quite good. A little further north, in Saint James on Route 25A, you'll find Kitchen, a Bistro. Wonderful, inventive food.

        1. Cafe La Strada is excellent.
Zar's in St James has fabulous Persian food.
Zan's Deli at the Smith Haven mall for a great pastrami sammich.

          1. I love the sushi idea and Yelp gives Kotobuki great recs. Will try that..thanks..will post here and on Yelp Feb. 13
