So all these pp envelopes arrive w/no return address & the following emblazoned across top:

REQUEST FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION - TIME SENSITIVE MATERIAL
WARNING: $2,000 FINE, 5 YEARS IMPRISONMENT, OR BOTH, FOR ANY PERSON INTERFERING OR OBSTRUCTING WITH DELIVERY OF THIS LETTER. U.S. MAIL TTT.18 U.S. CODE

I'd never frequent a business that would send out this kind of advertising.

I guess anyone could put that recitation of the law on their envelopes, regardless of what's inside. Whenever I see it, I throw the letter away unopened.

Same here, although since most things I get with that warning on the envelope are those bogus debt-reduction offers, they go into the shredder.

I have thought the same thing for years - it's amazing they don't get into hot water with that mailing. The only plus was it wasn't Jury Duty

It's just gibberish that anyone could write on an envelope but why come off as threatening your customer?

A crude and distasteful call to action, but you opened the envelope, which was their marketing person's primary intent. Obviously that won't result in your patronage in this case, but that is the basic goal of junk mail - to get opened. Sometimes the marketers aren't thoughtful beyond the that, which is shortsighted in this era of more engaged consumers.
