It seems socialist mayors in France have a hangup with
fine wines. In 2006, the mayor of Paris, Betrand Delanoe
decided to sell some of the cellar accumulated by Jacques Chirac during his time as mayor from 1977 and 1995 (before becoming president). Chirac had been a beloved Ministre de l'Agriculture and kept receiving gifts from top winemakers for the City's cellar (he was also a very knowledgeable wine drinker).Here is a French article discussing both the Dijon
