I just made cheese fondue last week (got a fondue pot for Christmas!) and we had apples, bread, hard salami slices, and blanched red potatoes and cauliflower with it. It was a great meal for my husband and I. If I were to do it for guests, I might also do an assortment of raw veggies (carrots, celery, bell pepper), grapes, and different kinds of bread/breadsticks/crackers.

Sliced fresh apples, a light & a dark crusty bread, dried dates and figs, celery sticks, small pieces of cooked beef, french fries, cooked pasta (large elbows or small ravioli), blanched cauliflower and/or broccoli. Plenty of skewers to make dipping easy or small bowl to transfer the cheese fondue into individual servings.
Have fun!

Oh I like the idea of figs! And the light and dark breads.
I just posted in another thread about fondue, and this cafe in Amsterdam that did killer fondue. I'd order a simple tomato salad with it, then top my cheese-laden baguette slice with a piece of tomato for an impromptu bruschetta.
