I realize that this is a ridiculous question, but I'm gonna ask anyway.

We just found out that we'll be flying in on Sunday to go to the Superbowl (Go Ravens!!) and would love to take our hosts to lunch beforehand. Do you think that there is anyplace within reasonable proximity to the Superdome that might be able to accomodate a party of 8, say around 2pm?

(See...I told you it was ridiculous)

If there isn't anyplace worthy of a CH rec, then I suppose that we'll order sandwiches in.

Thanks!!

  1. Are you coming in commercially (to Armstrong) or private plane to Lakefront?

I would suggest eating before you come in to town at somewhere near the airport, hence a recommendation would depend on the airport.

Otherwise stand in line somewhere or belly up to a bar for bar food. A party of 8 makes a Sunday sitdown a big problem

We'll be in a private plane, so I guess that means Lakefront. Any recs there?

Thanks for the advice. I actually found a res at Domenica for 2:30pm, but the reviews on the service scare me a little. Thoughts?

I'd say you are awfully GD lucky to get as good a spot as Domenica for that many people on such short notice. It does not, for the most part, have the Professional Servers you see in the older places but I've always been taken care of perfectly well..but I admit to tables of no more than 3 so can't guess about eight. Still, if you let them know you gotta be at Da Dome by whatever o'clock, you should be fine.

I'm hiding out although my usual coat-and-tie Sunday haunts ought to be fairly safe.

Wow..with an endorsement like that, how could I pass it up?

Reservations are made and we're on our way. Thanks so much!!

Yeah I'm amazed they have anything for 8 at Domenica on Super Bowl Sunday. I would definitely call and double check with a human rather than replying on Open Table. Can't hurt.

              Excellent idea and DONE! Thanks!!

A wise precaution and something I would never have thought of (not an Open Table user but that is no surprise.)

      2. You seem to be all set with Domenica, but I just got a note from Root that they still have reservations available for lunch on Sunday.

        1. Christina, stick with Domenica! Root is good but can be a bit out there. The occasion calls for the one-two punch of Domenica pizza and pasta, with a Sazerac first down the lobby at the Sazerac Bar, of course!

I think you are right and I had not even considered the Sazerac although I now realize that I was taking it as a matter-of-coure. For something such as the Super Bowl, I might invert the courses and have the Sazerac last, just before leaving for Da Dome. This would be tough for me, though, becuase I like lingering in the bar. On the other hand, the place will probably be SO packed that I'd rather not hang around.& I'd be the only one in a suit.
