Help me identify a Russian dessert, please

cpurrin1 Jan 28, 2013 04:37 PM

I had an amazing dessert in San Francisco I'm trying to get a recipe for. Sort of chewy but with chunks of something cookie-like. Definitely had sweetened condensed milk in it.

Full details here,

Would be grateful for any guesses. Trying to attach a photograph. Original dessert was in a big block, and owner cut slices off. It was not halva.

Sounds like halva. See this description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halva

Thanks for trying! I might just try simmering a can of sweetened condensed milk for 4 hours, per recipes for making solid caramel, and then adding some broken-up shortbread. It's driving me nuts.

Any chance this is the dessert you are looking for?

Which delicatessen in SF? Did you post on the SF board? Someone might be familiar with it.
