February Dish of the Month - VOTING THREAD

Looks like we've got 2 suggestions that seemed to pique some interest

* Chile relleno means stuffed chiles, which would basically include "poppers". I'm inclined to think that we should include those as well, especially with the Super Bowl coming up next Sunday. If the chiles rellenos are your choice, please also reply yes or no on whether to include poppers.

Voting is open, please indicate your choice in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS

CHILE RELLENO, poppers are kind of cheating but yes.

          1. CHILE RELLENO. NO POPPERS. ugh, no poppers.

                      1. Stupid question...if Chocolate does win is it in any form?Mole..chocolate cheese cake ..chocolate souffle. If so good I'm less worried about it winning.

                        1. chocolate- that is so much more encompassing!

                          1. CHILES RELLENOS - Yes POPPERS

I think poppers create an opportunity for people to visit some of the restaurants less traveled that don't get a lot of coverage on the San Diego board.

Jack in the Box - check
Sonic - non-traditional popper stuffed w/ cheddar cheese.
Wienerschnitzel - calls em "Der Jalapeno Poppers" so they sound all German and sh*#, as well.

                            TGIFridays - Bam!
                            Applebee's - Bam! Bam!

And I am sure that higher end casual chains like Outback offer up some kind of fusion-style popper on the barbie, mate.

Farm to Fryer, friends. Farm to Fryer. Don't hate the popper, hate the game.

holy crap i just laughed out loud.

                            2. Do chile relleno burritos count?

                              1. CHOCOLATE - hoping to see some inventive ones.

                                like chocolate pate *grumble*

                                1. Any chance of their being a chocolate chile releno?

[Even a somewhat chocolaty mole with a chile releno would fit this, I guess]

no. NO! There HAS to be a place in San Diego where this dish may be obtained.

That's what I thought. Dulce Patria?

My husband is LITERALLY talking about trying to make this as I write this post.

                                              1. re: Dagney

I don't think it would be hard to make, just time consuming. We also don't know what's inside, and I'm betting it wasn't cheese :-). And it doesn't look like it was battered and fried either.

Just based on the photo, I'm guessing it's got some type of picadillo inside, and a version of mole poblano is the sauce. But, then again, I could be way far wrong too.

Maybe if Shouzen sees your post he can tell you what it was filled with and what the sauce actually was. Then your husband would at least have a fighting chance to get it right :-).

                                                1. re: DiningDiva

Well, if it was going to be dessert, you could fill it with marscapone.

                                                  1. re: DiningDiva

TBH I don't remember the sauce exactly, but the filling was chicharron prensado (my first time having it)

                                                    1. re: shouzen

Chicharron prensada? Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. How was it?

                                      1. YES on RELLENOS. NO on Poppers and no on Chile relleno casserole.as well even though I do like it, (lots of childhood memories) it is not the same

                                        1. CHOCOLATE (down with poppers!)

                                          1. CHOCOLATE... when does voting close?

                                            1. Giving this a bump since today is the last day to vote.

At the moment it is a dead heat with both CHILE RELLENO and CHOCOLATE have the same number of votes.

So if you want to vote an a dish to explore locally this month, please do so before 8 pm tonight.

Dagney, you already voted upthread :-)

                                                        1. re: Fake Name

Whatever. You're just bitter over the CAB being cast aside. Fakey we can't ALL live at Super Sergio's. :>

                                                  2. OK I'll go for CHILE RELLENOS if voting is still open. Now tell me what makes the perfect CR, because I'm sure I've never come close to experiencing one.
