Good DC bar/ lounge for a pseudo-interview?

  • 5

I have the opportunity for a sort of meet-and-greet with a DC Chef coming up- any advice on places to meet for a drink?

He's not hiring, but it's still a chance to network. I'm also fairly soft spoken, so the place would be fairly calm but not deserted, classy, comfortable, and easy to get to with parking nearby... even a hotel lounge would be great IMO. Maybe the Mandarin-Oriental? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

  1. I think the bar at Fireflies on New Hampshire Ave just below Dupont Circle would be a nice place for something like this. Depending on the time you're meeting, street parking could be a challenge.

    1. The bar at Urbana, RIs, or Bibianna would probably work well.

The downstairs bar at the W is usually pretty quiet and they have some seated areas away from the bar. Same thing for the bar at Bourbon Steak in the Four Seasons in Georgetown.

The bonus part of all of these spots---if you get hungry you have good options.

      1. Three places come to mind. All of them have comfortable lounge areas with fireplaces: Tabard Inn, the upstairs bar at Sonoma, and the Ritz in Georgetown lounge area. In order of preference, although Sonoma probably has the easiest street parking options.

        1. Wisdom! SE Penn Ave. Hottest bar in town. Look it up.

          1. Off the Record in the basement of the Hay Adams. Perfect for casual conversation - only distraction is political nerds talkin policy and the occasional DC lawyer/lobbyist meeting up with the person they are having an affair with.
