Wasa or Taiko or better?

Need a place in Costa Mesa or nearby for Japanese cuisine. Wrinkle is that I want traditional, pure sushi/sashimi but we are also being joined by more conservative in-laws as well as my lovely but unadventurous 8-year old daughter who's going to want chicken karaage, edamame and rice. Where's the happy medium? Thanks.

    In CM, Kappo Sui would fit that bill nicely.

    The decor is a couple decades out of date, but maybe that's not a bad thing for "conservative" in laws?
