Queens -- any hidden gems?

KosherKing Jan 22, 2013 05:40 AM

I'm looking for a good moderate-priced restaurant. Could be new or just not well-known. Nothing pricey like Chateau Steakhouse or old stand-bys like Grill Point, Hapisgah or Sushi Metsuyan.

Also looking for best pizza. Shimon's, Pizza Professor are blech, IMHO.

If you are OK with the hechscher, there are a bunch of Bukharian places in Rego Park/Forest Hills that are great and inexpensive.

The best one is supposedly this one: http://www.yelp.com/biz/cheburechnaya...

There have been discussions about it and others out there.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on Pizza Professor, but as far as the moderate-priced restaurant goes, we have very much liked Turnpike Cafe the two times we have been there. It's on Union Turnpike. The food was good, and the service was very attentive.

I've been to a few of the Bukharan places in Queens and I think that Salute is the best of them. (I thought Cheburechnaya was very greasy and didn't sit so well afterward.) Not sure if there's a more direct source for a menu, but here's this: http://www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com/bi...

Anyone know what's happening at the former Grill Palace location?
