One afternoon in Queens - where to go for lunch?

  • 6

Last minute help needed! I just found out my husband and I need to be in Fresh Meadows on Monday morning and will have time to hang around for lunch. We'll have a car but we'll only have about an hour and a half total to get to the restaurant, park, and eat before we need to head back. Where should we go for lunch (and what should we order)? We are pretty adventurous eaters...

  1. Go to Ali Baba for a Kabob!

    1. either Spicy and Tasty for Szechuan if you want to go into dense Flushing, or Floral Park for chaat at Mumbai XPress if you want a more peaceful drive/parking experience.

Either one of those choices (while they are great recs) including driving time and parking time would be impossible from fresh meadows in an hour and a half.

      2. 90 minutes for lunch is kind of tight. The following places are all in Fresh Meadows with easy street parking nearby.

        Falafels:

        Benny's Kosher Pizza
        181-30 Union Tpke | Btwn 181st & 182nd St

Naomi's Kosher Pizza & Israel Falafel
68-28 Main St | Btwn Melbourne Ave & 68th Ave

        Chinese

        Mian
        184-02 Horace Harding Expy | Btwn 184th & 185th St

This place just opened recently. I really enjoyed the appetizers here, especially the duck soft tacos and deep fried string beans. http://www.miannoodle.com/

        Thai

        Thai Taste
        178-19 Union Tpke | At 179th St

If you want more Asian choices, drive down to Main Street and LIE. It's a 5 minutes drive on the LIE when there is no traffic. Parking is much easier here than downtown Flushing. Within a few blocks of each other are:

        Main Street Imperial Gourmet (Taiwanese
        )5914 Main Street, Flushing, NY

        Happy Garden (Cantonese)
        6006 Main Street, Flushing, NY

Lake Pavilion Restaurant (for dim sum)
60-19 Main Street, Flushing, New York

        Asian Cafe (mostly Malaysian)
        59-08 A Main St, Flushing, NY 11355

        New Bodai Vegetarian
59-08 Main St, Flushing, NY 11355

        Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao
59-16 Main St, Flushing, NY 11355
