Comments please on Audrey Claire

Bacchus101 Jan 19, 2013 03:59 PM

My wife has heard good things about Audrey Clare. I checked out the menu on their website and I would be pleased to venture a visit. Would like to hear the opinions of any CHs who have been there. Sure don't here much about it on this site. Thanks

Never ate there, but her father was my professor years ago. A fine man. That's reason enough to try it and I'm remiss for not having been. I've heard nothing but good about the place.

      Most over-rated restaurant in Philadelphia.

We brought our own glassware for a special dinner with wines chosen by my daughter as they did not provide stemware.

My "lightly-cooked" salmon, came back medium. I sent it back which is only the second time I have ever done this.

The highly-touted cheesecake was not available when we got to eating dessert even though I server had been told we wanted it for dessert.

And the topper: The dishwasher was hogging the small bathroom for his smoke break.

I HAVE ONLY EATEN THERE ONCE. WE REALLY ENJOYED THE FOOD - DELICIOUS, AND THE COMBINATIONS WERE ORIGINAL BUT NOT PRETENTIOUSLY SO. OUR ONLY CONCERN WAS THE NOISE IN THE RESTAURANT. EVEN AT A SMALL 4-TOP, WE FOUND THAT TO COMMUNICATE, WE REALLY HAD TO... SHOUT.

Thanks for the comments. Certainly a wide range of opinions and experiences suggesting that Audrey Claire may be constantly inconstant; a roll of the dice as it where. Will have to think more about an investment of time and money. Thanks!

I have only eaten there once, a couple years ago. I liked the flatbread/pizza, but the middle-Eastern-style mezze I ordered (hummus, muhammara, etc) were highly disappointing: I could make far better at home. I don't even remember the entree I got. It's probably not the worst place you could go, but I haven't bothered to go back.

Basically my thoughts as well...good but not memorable.very crowded and loud, doesn't take reservations, I believe cash only. If you are around the neighborhood often it might be worth a try, but not worth an "investment of time and money" as you put it.

i live across the street and waits are insane- with so many good places nearby, i dont know why anyone would bother

the food isnt good enough to justify the no-res policy and the deafening sounds. it's pleasant enough in the summer when you can sit outside and enjoy spruce street- but theres no way id go now
