Caffe Venezia being sold (Berkeley)

Robert Lauriston Jan 16, 2013 07:36 PM

Someone apparently made the owners a good offer for the place so they're selling after 33 years. No date announced yet.

Caffe Venezia was never very good.... after they moved to the larger space.

    25-30 years ago?

They were fantastic in the late 70's and early Eighties!

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good at the old space. I went to a good special Croatian wine dinner there five years ago.

"last night serving dinner will be June 2. ....restaurant is taking reservations for Mother’s Day and for graduations and is hosting a pop-up evening of music and dinner with well-known local musicians J. Raoul Brody and Zoltan di Bartolo, of Tango no. 9, on Wednesday, May 15, from 6-8 p.m."

we were there a couple weeks ago, and our server told us this. we've had plenty of very decent meals here. you could tell, however, that short-timer's syndrome has set in. this last visit was pretty sub-par, food and service.

Yeah, I think it's a serious problem for a restaurant to announce that it's closing very far in advance. The staff will start looking for new jobs and leave as soon as they find them.
