Best unknown desserts or dessert places in Manhattan or Brooklyn

I'm familiar with quite a few of the famous pastry chefs of NYC and with the most famous restaurants/bakeries. What I'm more curious about are the lesser known.
Where have you encountered some amazing desserts where and when you least expected?

  1. Boqueria had a nice flan the other day; I like my flans bouncy and eggy, but theirs was creamier, very smooth.

    Ootoya does a warabimochi that is just better than Robataya's--which is funny, cause the latter is higher-end and more authentic, etc.
