A&W Seafood: chinese place in van nuys

what is the fresh seafood (from the tank) there like ? how does it compare to say downtown chinatown places? live in westwood and am thinking whether it's worth the drive there to try it out, when i don't feel like going all the way to SGV

  1. I've not eaten at A&W Seafood, but I used to work right near there. It's in Northridge, which is a good 15 minutes out from Van Nuys in the wrong direction (away from Westwood), and the drive time one direction can easily be 35-40 min (I do drive on the slow side).

Depending on which day/night you're planning to go, it's not that much further time-wise to get to the SGV....

    1. A & W is not a destination restaurant. Fine if you live in the Valley but not worth a drive over the hill.

I live near the A&W in Granada Hills. Not worth the drive unless you live close by and have a real hankering for American-Chinese food.

The name A&W gives me a hankering for root beer for some strange reason.

      2. Westwood residents should never travel to the SFV for chinese food of any kind.
They should travel east to the SGV, period!

Substitute "Westwood" with "Southern California" in your sentence and it would be both accurate and complete.

Or, to quote myself, "100 of the top 100 Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles county are in the San Gabriel Valley. Or maybe 200. Or maybe 300."

thank you guys! you saved me some gas & driving time

        2. On the subject of A&W, I've noticed that the one in Reseda (and on Reseda) has roast ducks hanging in the window, presumably available for take-out. Has anyone ever had these?
