Antica Pesa

Any reviews of Antica Pesa in Williamsburg out there? I am thinking of going, but it has been quiet about this restaurant and I was actually anticipated there would be a buzz (if it was particularly good.)

There is no buzz for a reason.

The place itself is really nice.

    The food is not.

I have not eaten everything on the menu, but what I did have, was either bad or just not memorable.

Search the web, there are reviews out there.

Disagree with sushiman. The food is good, I've been there several times and I've ordered the same thing. Bucatini Amatriciana and a salad with some red wine. Their rendition is the beat I've ever had. A friend of mine had some wild boar stew over polenta, it was excellent. Check it out, not atypical Billy's burg joint more like Soho. Excellent gracious service as well.

Echo Gennasam, disagree with sushiman for sure. There are many mediocre Italian restaurants in NYC, this is not one of them. The music choices lacking, everything else was legit. Go on over there.

First 2 times food was good, even maybe excellent...the next 2 it was very disappointing.
The crispy chicken starter and the dumplings in brodo are the best...once the pork entree was to die for, the next time it was inedible.
It may have become a better place to go get a drink and an app at bar and move on... if youre into that kind of atmosphere -- super slick, italian, manhattan-y vibe... but they are overly nice, typical italian service...even if they screw up, they will make it up to you ten fold.

Had an outstanding meal there on Sunday night. Starters -- the egglant mille feuille with fresh ricotta, arugula salad and octupus. Entrees - lasagna, lamb chops, salmon and artichoke ravioli - all excellent. Extensive, well priced Italian wine list. Warm welcome from staff and attentive service.

I have heard nothing but the press reports of Madonna's two visits there. So there's that!

First time I went, I thought the food while good, was not all that memorable, and not as good as the decor. However, I went pretty early on--like the second week the restaurant was open. I'm going to give it another go.

Me and my wife arrived on a Saturday night to a large clubby atmosphere. There was this trancy house music bumping through the place.. They had the DJ printed on the menu. As if I needed to know who to blame for my headache.

It was more than we could take. With our reservation, we were seated promptly and then ignored for 15 minutes..

We left. I wouldn't go back.

Ugh--that must be a relatively new thing. Wasn't like that when they first opened. I would guess they don't have that going during the week, but it's enough to convince me not to rush back anytime soon. If I want a club atmosphere, I'll go to a club, not a restaurant.
