dinner for 20 college students on a field trip?

Traveling to NYC with a group of college seniors in the next weeks and am looking for a reasonable place to have dinner on a weekday (Tuesday) night. We will be in Chelsea prior to dinner, but can certainly travel a reasonable distance for the meal. Type of cuisine isn't particularly important, am just looking for something relatively tasty in a place that will allow for some conversation between students and quite recent alums. Budget would be around $40 a person, if that seems reasonable. Likely not too much drinking to be had (at least not until the professor has left the group, I imagine).

any suggestions/comments would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

Consider Carmine's on 44th near Broadway

I was also thinking Otto. For a party that large they will make you do a prix fixe menu. And it is spot on for your budget.

        STANDARD DINNER MENU
        $40 per person
        Mixed Vegetable Antipasti
        Mixed House Cured Meats
        Bruschetta del Giorno

Your choice of 4 types of pizza

        DOLCI
        Homemade Italian Biscotti, Gelati
        & Sorbetti

that seems pretty solid. they ask that for peak dinner hours you do the "deluxe" dinner menu, @ $55 pp, but I'll check that out.

Plead the college student angle and maybe they'll cut you a break. :)

Another vote for Otto. Yet the place can get very loud. You could also do a banquet in Chinatown, two tables of ten.

Definitely Chinatown. Old Sichuan on Bayard.
