Best place for dinner in East Cambridge?

Bugsey34 Jan 13, 2013 06:13 PM

We are going to be near the corner of Cambridge St. and Cardinal Medeiros Ave. on a Saturday night soon and I'm looking for a place where we can have a fairly quick dinner before moving onto a concert in Harvard Square. I'm not very familiar with the area. Any suggestions?

east coast grill is on Cambridge Street and might make sense. I have not eaten there since the change of ownership.

central square has several good options: Rendezvous, Craigie, Theloneus Monkfish.

And of course, Harvard Square has Rialto, Bartleys (for a burger), Tamarind Bay for Indian, Le's for Viet Namese food.

Agree with many of your suggestions. I love Craigie, but I would never call a dinner there "quick", and that's not even counting the crowd at the bar and trying to get a seat.

How about East by Northeast on Cambridge St? I haven't tried it yet, but I remember some good reviews about this place. Very close to where you'll be.

It's fabulous - just not sure how quick it is.

don't know about "quick" but Helmand is very good. Court House Seafood might be quick. both are quite close to your location.

Court House was the first thing that came to mind as I've been wanting to go there, but it's not open for dinner, right? That's what I saw on the website.

From there website here are their hours
            Monday 11:00 to 3:00
            Tues - Thurs 11:00 to 7:00
            Friday 11:00 to 8:00
            Saturday 11:00 to 6:00
            Closed Sunday
Not fine dinning more like counter service, but the fish is fresh since the fish market is right next store.

If you're open to dining in Harv Sq (park once) we have really enjoyed the new Park restaurant. Otherwise, lots of CH positives for Cambridge St spots: East by Northeast, and the new Puritan and Co. Dining as early as possible will relieve some of the 'getting there on time' stress. .

One Kendall is just down Cardinal Medeiros. Cambridge Brewing would be quick. Emma's is also right there, and they can get you out fast.

              Tupelo is good and reasonable.

I've always enjoyed Rendezvous. You'll need to make a reservation.

Very close to this intersection is Atwoods Tavern, which has a very serviceable menu that is also very inexpensive. I love their fried fish tacos, mac and cheese, veggie burger, and roast chicken. The menu has something for everyone.

This and the Snack Bar I think are closest to this intersection.

Second Atwood's. Good "next level" pub food, reasonably priced and quick. Casa Portugal is on Cambridge Street, and across the street from aforementioned Tupelo (southern comfort).

Near the intersection of Cardinal Medeiros Avenue and Broadway is Taiwanese restaurant MuLan (288 Broadway). If you like interesting Chinese food, it's a great recommendation. Service is prompt, and although they can have a waiting line at peak times, their peak is normally weekday lunchtime rather than Saturday early dinner time.

Atwoods would be a good choice. Not sure what type of food you like or what kind of an environment you are looking for, but you can get a quick meal at Clover which is a short walk up the street in the direction of Harvard Square. All Star Pizza and All Star Sandwich Bar in Inman Square would also be quick and their food is good. These places I have mentioned are all on the casual side but have good food and are typically very speedy. They are also close to the location you mentioned and on the way to Harvard Square.

Portugualia is its name. Another good option.

Thanks so much, guys, you are amazing as usual. In the end I made an early reservation for East by Northeast. Excited to try it!

I think what we've learned from this thread, is that there's no shortage of good spots within 5 minutes of the corner.

Agree with you there! East Cambridge and the surrounding neighborhoods, including Central, Inman and Union Squares, are filled with lots of choices.
