Pummelo/Pommelo

Got one as a gift the other day. Had never eaten one so it was a treat from that aspect. I thought it was a cross between some things, but turns out it's an entity unto itself and the largest citrus fruit.

Very sweet, non-acidic grapefruit (personally, I like the kick of grapefruit). Incredibly thick rind and very little fruit. And pricey. So what's the big deal?

I'm thinking about candying the rind. Anyone done this? Worth the effort?

  1. Sorry - no experience in candying the rind, but I will say that I find the pommelo to be delicious in salads!
