Going to Two Toms for dinner tomorrow, first time. What to order, what to expect?
A group is going to dinner tomorrow at Two Toms, mostly because we are all very curious. I am a first gen Italian and think I have pretty good taste in food. Generally shun spaghetti and meatballs kind of places but if nothing else, I'm game. Obviously I know that this place is the opposite of fancy and I can probably guess the entire menu without looking at it. My question is, what do they do well besides the pork chops, which we will certainly order? And is the wine awful? I'm not a wine snob. When in italy we always order the house wines and that's generally perfect for a casual meal. But in the US bad wine can be really bad. Is it at least drinkable? There will be drinking with this crowd. Finally, any cool bar recs in Gowanus for afterwards would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
re: Steve R
It was everything I expected -- zero ambience, terrible lighting, bad food, the wine barely drinkable. But it was an experience and it was packed and -- here is the important thing -- the one thing they truly do like real Italians is they don't turn tables. we were a party of 7, seated at 8pm and we left at 1am. No pressure whatsoever. I'm glad I went, but I don't have to go back. (And the pork chop isn't all that.)
