I need NY style pizza.

Hey guys... I just moved back to Toronto from New York City and I'm seriously having some food cravings. I miss New York style pizza (thin crust), grlic knots and I'm wondering where I can get it here... If you have ever been to grimaldis or johns on bleecker u know what i mean. Preferably in the Scarborough/Pickering area If that's even possible. If not, I can travel downtown if I really need to.

  1. Too bad you missed Bigabaldi. It was what you were looking for.

Otherwise, I really can't help you. But I'm interested in seeing what others have to say.

Is Bigabaldi closed now? Wasn't that the pizza place on Marlee?

I think it closed like a year ago....

Marlee, yes. Fat Phills is there now.

Wow! I'm surprised. Weren't they there forever? And didn't they do quite well?

The locals have Paul's Tomato Pie. It seems well liked.

No, a little over a year I think.
I think they did okay during the winter but summer was a killer. The last time I was there was the beginning of summer and they were lamenting a strong drop off. More than they'd expected.
A couple things I had there were good but no better. The rest were outstanding. They had the best pizza crust I've ever had.

I was there once, and wasn't blown away. I was expecting a softer crust that could be folded over, but instead the crust was crispy. I guess that's why I only went once. The garlic knots were pretty good though.

      2. In case you get no other suggestions...there's a new place on Queen St. W called North of Brooklyn that does garlic knots and a pizza that may suit you...http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/862960

I don't think it's like John's on Bleeker but you can read the other thread for details.

        1. When I go to NYC I eat multiple pizzas at Una - now Motorino, Patsy's, Totonno's, and my fav Luzzo's (didn't like Lombardis). I thought THAT was NY Style pizza (i.e. similar to Neapolitan). There are some very good pizzas of that style finally available in Toronto (personally I like QMP best).

          I'll have to try John's / Grimaldi's next time.

          1. I'm lookin' at pictures of that crust and I can say you won't find that combo here my friend. If you want good, thin-crust wood-oven pizza in Scarborough, the closest you'll find is at The Crazy Tomato Trattoria on St Clair just east of O'Connor. That or you can wait patiently (as i've been doing) for the return of Fratelli Village Pizzeria practically on the Scarborough-Pickering border. They're awesome.

You can get pizza knots at Lafamiglia (sic) on O'Connor between St Clair and Eglinton. The curse of this place is their sauce is great, but their dough is beyond meh. Skip Just-Eat and call them directly for delivery. I provide the link for menu purposes only.

            1. Queen Margherita is close to Grimaldi's.
