Went back to Tepa Sahauyo with some friends who have never been there....they were blown away - just as I was during my first visit. They are currentlly closed for Xmas - heard the son say that they were going back to Mexico for the Holidays. Not sure when they will reopen but make sure to call if you want to go soon.
The table salsa and chips are very good - try your best not to over do it - lots of food will be on the way. The agua frescas are good and are large - if you're watching your $$$ - you can easily share one ($2.50) - each comes in a small pitcher that will yield 2- 3 glasses.
The chiles en nogado (sp?) were as good as I remember - ground turkey & pomigranite stuffed chiles with a walnut sauce. Someone else had a chicken & onion dish with green sauce (tomatillo, I think) that was delicious.
When you're asked about which tortillas you want - definitely give the house made flour tortillas a try - when they're fresh and hot they are unlike any others I've had ... nicely charred, light and fluffy.
The one dish that I wasn't wowed by was a shrimp dish with their name on it - Tepa Sahuayo - it was cooked with a lot of wine - sort of over powered any other flavors - wouldn't order this again.
The menu is very dense and the names are hard for me to remember - and they're often out of menus that you can take (paper) so it's hard for me to confirm the spelling and description. Fiesta Tepa Sahauyo 15 First St. Watsonville, CA 95076 831. 724-3492 There are many other posts on this place if you want to read more just do a search on the home page. A note on the name - a business card I have just lists the name as Tepa Sahauyo but it's also known as Fiesta Tepa Sahauyo.

I went there over a year ago with a friend from New Jersey. She's coming out in February, and insists we go back (from Oakland).

So I appreciate the continuing reports -- it's hard to know what to order with their rather confusing menu.

I've been twice in the last month. The trio of tamales in poblanos (picadillo, shrimp and huilacoche) with three pipians was very good and the recomendado, fried cheese with shrimp in guajillo sauce with lots of huitlacoche continues to impress me as the best item on the menu. I think they are closing for 2 weeks but not sure on that.

I love taking new people to this place. I've had great experiences with both food geek types and regular folk.
