White Oak Kitchen - sigh.

In Atlanta for work for 3 nights and tonight is the only night we have "free" to choose our restaurant. After researching on Chowhound, I chose White Oak Kitchen based on pretty good reviews, proximity to our hotel and studying their menu online.

We had reservations at 7:15. We were on time and seated promptly. Our water glasses were refilled and our corn bread muffins were gone before our waiter even came to the table ("has any one waited on you yet?"). Since we'd had plenty of time to study the menus, we each ordered a cocktail and two appetizers: the begniets and the grits with mushrooms. The apps arrived fairly quickly but were luke warm. We were done with them before our drinks arrived. By this time, the attentive water guy had refilled our glasses at least 3 times. The begniets were doughy and the inconsistent - my first one had a lot of cherry in it (to the point of being too sweet) and my second was just barely fried dough. The mushrooms with the grits were very good and even though not hot, they were tasty. The cocktails were a little sweet but good.

We ordered the shrimp and the fried chicken for dinner. After completing our drinks (and at least another 4 glasses of water since there was nothing more offered), our dinner arrived. The fried chicken (my choice) rested on a bed of cold, undercooked rice which was garnished with now soggy potato chips. The chicken was hot so it was pretty clear that the rice and chips had set (apparently not in a warm spot) for quite some time before the chicken was finished. There was also no gravy on the chicken, as promised. I sent it back (I very rarely send back food) and the second dish that came out was much better. Still not sure if the potato chips are the best companion to the rice as they got soggy pretty quickly but they were fresh when they arrived the second time.

It seemed clear that the staff was not prepared for the busy evening. They looked completely disorganized and often confused. I'm disappointed that I didn't put a little more effort into researching the restaurant choice. We definitely wouldn't return. On a positive note, the decor is great!
