Upcoming Birmingham, MI Restaurant Week
So I was gassing up the vehicle at the Speedway on Woodward at Maple tonight and their "helpful" advertising monitors were blaring about this or that...and then they talked about BRW ($15 for 3-course lunch, $30 for 3-course dinner) coming up at the end of the month (www.birminghamrestaurantweek.org). I actually checked it out, and while there are a decent number of participating restaurants, only a few had posted their BRW menus on the website. However, of those who had (and let's face it, it's pretty bold to post your menu this early), there were some pretty interesting ones.
220 is really the one that stood out the most for me. In their lunch menu for the first week (they have menus for both lunch and dinner for both the first and second week), they had a choice of four first courses which sounded okay, and then, for the second course: BOOM! Steak Diane! A personal favorite, when done right, and it sure sounds good (Brandy, Mushrooms, Garlic Mashed Potatoes). Polish it off with Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée, and you're done for $15. In their lunch for the second week, they've got breaded sole on offer as one of the entrees. That sounds nice to me!
I won't bore you with the other menus posted, but suffice it to say that I'm also intrigued by what Rugby Grill had posted, Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse had a decent dinner selection, Big Rock sounds far better than expected, and such. In fact, the only really non-starters for me (so far) were the Forest Grill one (new chef...I'll cut him a bit of slack) and Social Kitchen and Bar (which, for $30, looked out-and-out lousy).
This could be an event I need to eat out a couple of times for!
