Late night (after 24:00) restaurants in Paris

vadimkantorov Jan 6, 2013 07:03 PM

Hi Chow,
Which restaurants would you recommend with the kitchen open after midnight and maybe even 1am?
I live in the 13th, but interested in places all over.

    My choices would be:
La Tour de Montihery-Chez Denise (until 5 AM) for Bourgeoise cuisine
    l'Alsace (24/24) choucroute
La Maison de l'Aubrac (24/24) for aged aveyronnaise beef

La Maison de l'Aubrac is certainly a good choice and price/value ratio is ok - menu may get a little restricted in the wee hours, probably as the daily specials disappear.

The real issue at La Maison de l'Aubrac is not so much the disappearance of daily specials as the possible shortage of nicely aged beef.

We encountered that problem at our last recent lunch there but fortunately the moderately aged beef (3 weeks, still not bad) was excellent.

Of those so far suggested, the top of my list is Chez Denise... but, sigh, closed at weekends.

I'm a little put off by the price-quality ratio at la Maison de l'Aubrac. If you are not careful, the tab can be very hefty.

The Grand Café des Capucines on the boulevard des Capucines near l'Opéra (another 7/7 24/24 place) is a pretty safe -- and surprisingly enjoyable-- bet for fruits de mer but I wouldn't hazard a full meal unless very drunk. And very convenient for the noctilien/ night bus from Opéra to Place d'Italie and other stops in the 13th.

If you are under 40, there are a couple of late night restos in the Oberkampf quartier: Le Café Charbon on the rue Oberkampf; my fave Porokhane (Senegalese cuisine) on the rue Mayet; and a few others I've never tried.

In the 13th, I've noticed some after-midnight eating on the Butte aux Cailles... but the names of the restos never registered... sorry. Same for Chinatown, I've seen some places open at 1am or so but never tried any. (Ptipois, we need you)

I'd love to help, but despite being in the area several times a week, I've never been there past 11 PM. And it's not with the weather we're having now that I'll start. To be updated in the Spring.

Do you remember which places you saw open at 1 am?

I only noticed them from the car while negotiating a confusing detour that night so the details are very blurry. After a bit of googling, Villa d'Or on the rue Baudricourt between the ave de Choisy and ave d'Ivry seems to be open until 2am and to fit the detour route. The second place was probably on the same street or on the ave de Choisy between r Baudricourt and r Caillaux but can't really pin it down.

Thanks — I'll check, but I'm not sure when I can do that.
