Specific request for ambiance

scarletgenesis Jan 5, 2013 10:55 AM

I'm looking for a venue for my mom and I to enjoy some music during our February visit. I do have specific requirements/preferences, and wonder if anyplace meets them.

-music- like all kinds, though slower jazz, smoky vocals, darker types are welcome.

- bar - would like a bar and also some other seating (tables, couches, whatever). Good drinks and wine.

-ambiance- darker. Candelight or lower lighting, not overly smoky, if at all, and non-modern (looking for not necessarily run down, but not that sterile, slick look I find a lot of places seem to have. I want it to have character (and characters), like its seen some age and has the scars and stories to prove it.

Obviously, ambiance is super important here, but if you have another amazing suggestion, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance!

Grill Room / Polo Lounge at the Windsor Court come to mind.

As you describe, Bombay Club has the tite ambiance, good drinks, and good bar food. The music varies. I love Don Vapie trad, if he returns. The other groups that play there I don't know.

Snug Harbor should also fit your needs, particularly on the music side.

+1 Bombay although I don't know how crowded it gets with characters? Pretty low key my visit but great ambiance and torch singer.

Carousel Bar, check their music listings.

With the exception of the non-modern requirement, you might want to check out the Yat Pack at the Burgundy Bar in the Saint Hotel on Canal Street.
