Elk Candy Company (NY) Lives!
For marzipan lovers: The Elk Candy Company, which made world-class marzipan candies on 86th St in New York for over a half-century, closed its doors in 2006. I just discovered that Elk has continued its business with an online store. They sell the same marzipan fruits and pigs and cocoa-dusted potatoes, the same chocolate-dipped dominoes ($32 a pound), and the same almond paste for home confectionary ($16 a pound). The best marzipan on earth, the opinion of one who has been buying it at Elk since it was $4 a pound.
