Went to Russo's this afternoon to restock my fridge after my holiday travels. Surprise! There's a big hole in the ground with some pilings in it behind the west side of the building (the side with the smaller parking lot, to the right if you are looking at the front of the building). The employee I asked about it confirmed that they are expanding the building but could not say what Russo's intends to do with the extra space.
FWIW it was the usual good time at Russo's. In addition to what was on my shopping list, I scored some absolutely perfect okra and some small brown chilies the likes of which I have never seen before. The chilies were fresh but clearly very ripe, about the length of the Thai chilis that Russo's sells but about twice as wide at the base compared to them and taping down to a point. Clearly some kitchen experimentation is required...
Wow, I was hoping that might happen after they took out the trees on that side of the building and had the Christmas tree pickup there. That would be awesome, but only if they have enough parking. That's where I usually parked to avoid the craziness of the other two areas.
I may have seen those chiles last week. They had both red and brown, and were labelled something like "long habaneros" or something. Let us know how they are!
I asked recently (we're at Russo's at least once a week), and the person I spoke with said it was going to be additional storage / warehouse space. The public part of the store won't be changing.
