Skirt Steak: new book about female chefs

Yesterday NPR interviewed the author of "Skirt Steak", which contains female chefs' comments about the profession. One of my pet peeves is the misapplication of the word, so I was happy that the author mentioned that the definition of "chef" is a cook who runs a professional kitchen. I assume Julia Child did not have final approval over the name of her show, since she often pointed out that she was never a chef. "Home chef" and similar terms are as oxymoronic as "hobbyist neurosurgeon".
