Cafe Zitouna [San Francisco]

After a long period of indeterminate closure I was pleasantly surprised to see Zitouna was open last night and crowded at 8:30. They are closed Mondays, as always, and have modified hours of dinner 4:00 - 9:00 Tuesday - Sunday.

  1. Good to hear that. If you're eating there on the later side, it's a good idea to call ahead if you want the b'stilla. They will save slices for you if they know you're coming, and it's my favorite thing to get there (note: it's quite sweet)

Honestly I'm not a fan of b'stilla but have been really pleased with everything else I've tried there.

    2. Just ate there for the first time last night. My family had merguez sausage, chicken shwarma, Loobia Tajine, shakshukah with meatballs, plus a piece of seminola cake and mint tea.
All very good--- mine was the Loobia Tajine, and the lamb and beans were wonderful. I wish I could go there more often and eat my way through the whole menu.

Just got back from a stupendous lunch at Cafe Zitouna with a French-Tunisian friend of mine, who's here from Paris.

I am happy to report the B'stilla (Bisteeya) is superb as I recall it from many years ago. We also had the lamb kebab, perfectly seasoned, and of course the breek and topped it off with the harira (semolina cake).

      2. Great chicken kebab sandwich (w/o the swiss cheese).
