kosher after theatre?

We're seeing My Name is Asher Lev Saturday night. Can your recommend somewhere kosher for drinks and light fare after the show? The show is at Westside Theatre Upstairs
407 West 43rd Street (Between 9th and 10th Avenues)

    1. Kosher drinks? Is there such a thing?

Of course there is! To my knowledge, anything that's not made from grapes is per se kosher unless it's something unusual like mezcal con gusano and has a treyf (non-kosher) creature inside (the "worm" in that case).

Grapes are non-kosher? I never knew that. Thanks for the education.

Brandy and cognac usually require certification. As does vermouth. Many liqueurs are usually not kosher, including Benedictine, Chartreuse, Campari, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier. Rum requires certification usually as well as some tequilas. It's not as cut and dry as you might think!

I was going by what a former girlfriend who kept strictly kosher told me. Brandy and cognac are more or less wine derivatives, but I don't get why rum would require certification, still less tequila.

Any gold/spiced/aged versions might have coloring, flavorings, etc added that aren't kosher.

No, grapes are kosher, but wine is not automatically kosher.
