Looking for recommendations - Modern decor, sophisticated food & service

MELCH Dec 30, 2012 06:26 PM

M-I-L coming to town from Europe, she loves "trendy" places with very contemporary decor, sophisticated service, and food must be 5 star quality. She isn't a fan of Asian cuisine. Last time we went to Canoe and she was impressed with the setting/service/food but want to show her something else. Tried C5 last time, the setting/decor was perfect, but food very unimpressive. Not necessarily looking to break the bank, although pricing not a factor. Not interested in menus that focus on snout to tail typed cuisine =) would appreciate some suggestions; thanks!

+1 Splendido and I would consider George as well.

You're almost describing Splendido to a t... I'm surprised you didn't go there on her first or second visit.

Cava has a contemporary atmosphere and decor, sophisticated food and good service.

Campagnolo also has a contemporary, minimalist decor, serving good food with sophisticated and rustic elements.

Campagnola has a great vibe and good food for sure. More reliable on the food side IMO is Edulis.

I love the food at Edulis and the service is warm and friendly. However I don't consider the decor to be modern.

Very true. It is more Country Bistro I guess I would call it. Not sleek and modern! : )

The food options are always innovative so I was certainly blinded by the food when answering.

Ursa, Colborne Lane, Cafe Boulud, Orign, for wine bars Salt and Glas are both nice.
